Banned

The following three posts resulted in me being banned from The Canvas. The current adminstration at that board indicated that all members would receive a warning and be given the chance to "modify their behavior" if the adminstrators found their conduct to be "destructive" to the board. I never received a warning. The administrators never contacted me regarding my conduct. My posts were deleted and I was banned.
Let me start by saying that I'm absolutely certain that 99.5% of the people here at The Canvas have no idea who I am. I'm a Liason fan. I have been since their first meeting in Jake's. I'm a lurker. I've been here for years; I've been at Liason boards that are long defunct and Liason boards that still remain.

So what bring me out now? I'm sure that it isn't that hard to guess. I'd like to have a discussion about the obvious problem that it surrounding The Canvas right now. I'll admit that when this entire situation regarding the gifting of TC blew up I was a little taken aback. I've been reading for several days, trying to gather my thoughts on the situation. And frankly, I don't think it's asking too much to have an open and honest conversation about what is happening.

To start, somebody is lying. In fact at least two people are lying. How do I know that? Because there are three stories circulating about how the transfer of ownership of TC happened. We have Amy's version, Brooke's version, and Casey & KoKo's version. I have my personal beliefs about who is telling the truth in this situation, and the steps that should be taken to rectify it, but that isn't really the point of this post. The POINT, is that as members of The Canvas we all have the RIGHT to be able to discuss our thoughts and concerns regarding this issue. I'm not condoning members who begin name-calling and bashing, but having an adult conversation regarding the matter really isn't too much to ask. More upsetting to me that the problem that started this entire mess is the fact that the members of The Canvas are not being permitted to express their opinions.

I find it disturbing that the original thread created to give The Canvas members the "411" was shut down. Amy has stated that everyone was talking in "circles and ovals". Okay. So? I'm sure that there are plenty of people who found that thread, or heard about it, after the thread had already been shut down. People who only venture online every few days, people who have to work during the day and don't have internet access at work. By shutting down the thread my chance to express my opinion was taken away from me. If I want to talk in circles, oval or triangles isn't that my right? Isn't it yours?

There are messages stating that nobody has been banned, then messages stating that those banned may be reinstated. And who decides what is "destructive" to the board. Is somebody including a link in their signature "destructive"? If not, why are signatures, avatars, threads, posts being removed? Am I being destructive?

I've seen many people post that at the end of the day that this board should only be about Liason. Really? At the end of the day are you happy pushing aside injustices for a television couple? Is a fictional couple really, REALLY more important than standing up for the things you believe in? Is a fictional couple a good reason to look the other way? I would hope that at the end of that day that we're all a little more grounded in reality than that.

I respectfully request that the current admins/mods either

1) unlock the 411 thread, or
2) create a new thread

that permits the members of The Canvas to have an open discussion regarding the current state of affairs of this board.

Your time and consideration of this matter are appreciated.

Can somebody please explain to me why this is funny? I thought we might actually get an honest discussion about the state of affairs. Instead Amy continues to make light of what is actually a very serious situation. Disappearing threads, vanishing posts and banned members isn't something to make a mockery of.

For me this has extended far beyond the original issue of who this board belongs to. The way this entire matter has been addressed is incredibly heavy handed. The moderators continue to issue posts with their side of the story without allowing public response from the members of The Canvas. Why exactly must I get Casey and KoKo's version of events through PM? Do you really believe that anything sent via PM by Brooke or Amy at this point is going to be truthful? If truth is really on their side then why are they so afraid to allow conversation?

I have previously respectfully requested that we be permitted to discuss this matter in the open. That post was deleted. Perhaps my respect wasn't deserved.

The Truth

Directly From Casey's Mouth:

I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions, put a timeline out there from Koko and I. I'd do it at the Canvas but you know...I lost err "gifted" my keys.

- The Canvas moved to Yuku with no issues.

- Koko's last post was in February of 2008.

- Koko was in contact with Jeweltones, via her personal email not too long ago this year. Koko explained she'd be MIA awhile for family reasons.

- We were honest we didn't have time for the day to day activities, it was why we finally got moderators after years and years of going at it alone.

- I visited the board on a fairly daily bases, mostly the spoiler thread....OKAY I only had the spoiler thread bookmarked. The Spoiler Only one too....(Woops greatest contribution EVER to The Canvas! Tongue ) But I did browse when time permitted.

- We didn't just discover the turnover, I've know since March 16. A few days after the announcement. (March 13 or 14 I believe)

- Here comes the part Koko hates....Never in a million years did I think there would be an abandonment clause, I thought Koko had "gifted" it to them, cause truthfully my new job is my life and I barely even have time to talk to the coolest person I know, so while I was hurt and shocked at that time, how else could they had gotten control right?

- I'll admit it, I couldn't deal with it. We were both pretty clear the half a dozen times that Brooke asked for the board, that we rather destroy it than give it away. I was pissed. I fucked up by not saying anything to Koko. I was afraid I'd say something I'd regret. And as saddened as I was that the Canvas was gone. Yeah I was sad, I was surprised just how sad I felt given that it rarely gave me any pleasure as of late. And by late I mean YEARS, it was still ours, and I was quite sad. Yet if I'd have to choose, the Canvas over my Koko, I'd let that bitch burn to the ground. I'd throw kindle. Smiley So I let it be……

- Koko having come home from a business trip yesterday, Sunday, text message me, wondering WTF was I thinking giving the board to Brooke et,al. Shockage ALL around. Reaction Instant.

How we believe it happened?

Candy was the one who originally created the board in 2001. It was the first time we'd ever used Ezboard, and Candy created the user canvasliason and then the community. We all then created at the local accounts with our names, candy, casey and koko. It's when we met a lot of you then, we posted ALL the time. Eventually the whole Ezboard global user became an issue and we created CANVAS only accounts, like Canvas Admin, Canvas Publisher etc, and other personal accounts because seriously who wants to post as the Canvas Admin on an OC board?

We never used canvasliason , never even gave it another thought. Over the seven years we've changed emails, purchased our own domains.....we reset, made changes, keep on top of our personal and Canvas accounts...except one. The main one apparently. When you read the community profile, canvasliason was the Owner and we were the Administrators. If Yuka even tried to make contact, by Brooke's prodding I'm sure, we believe canvasliason is the profile they would have contacted and truth be told, we have no clue on where those emails would go. But they didn't come to us personally.

Even if they went through "legal" loopholes with Yuku, at the end of the day, Brooke and Amy NEVER contacted us at our personal emails that we provided. They never called using the cell phone numbers we left with them to ask us our feelings on this matter.

Brooke & Amy continued to use their email addresses @thecanvas.tv. Which I still pay for monthly, clearly not abandoned. We still have the domain thecanvas.tv up and running, also not abandoned.

Even after all of this....we have yet to receive an email from Brooke or Amy. But we have no problems getting emails of support from a lot of you here so again. Big....huge...thank yous!

xoxo
Casey

PS: FTR Broke and Amy are only "financially responsible" for the Canvas because they took it from the people who were once "financially responsible" for it!

The Lie

Amy's Opening Post -- 411 Thread

As you are aware, in early March 2008, ownership of The Canvas Messageboard changed hands.

Over the past 24 hours, Casey and/or Koko were on TC claiming that TC had been "stolen" from them.

This post is to advise all our chatters, posters and lurkers as to how the change in ownership happened.

Since Brooke and I, together with the fan fic archivers, were given our positions at TC several years ago, we have always given our posters, chatters and lurkers the opportunity to contact Casey and Koko directly with their concerns, questions, etc. Many posters, including us, have been unable to contact either Casey or Koko via PM or email.

This was not always unusual because Casey and Koko tended to take a very hands off approach to running this board. Months would go by without any interaction from them. We had learned to move forward with the day-to-day operation and fun of this board with limited/no input from them.

In December 2007, we were contacted Yuku advising that they had been contacted by several TC posters about the posters' inability to contact the Casey and/or Koko with questions or concerns. Yuku asked if we had been in contact with Casey or Koko in recent months -- we stated that we had not been contacted recently. Yuku then advised us that they planned to contact Casey and/or Koko with a deadline of 30 days to respond.

Casey and/or Koko failed to respond to Yuku's email and the board was considered abandoned.

Yuku specifically stated to us:

We haven't heard from the administrators, and the emails to some of them bounced, so we need to do a transfer of ownership.

Yuku stated that the board would be shut down in 14 days or two weeks if they did not transfer ownership.

We assumed ownership of the board.

There was no plotting done to overtake the board. There was and is nothing secretive about this situation. Please feel free to contact Yuku if you wish to ask more questions.

We have nothing to hide.

As always, if you have questions, you know where to find us...

Amy & Brooke

Brooke's Post in 411 Thread

I'm going to lay this out step-by-step, and this will be my only post in this thread.

1. I contacted the Yuku Admins after experiencing an issue with the board. It was not about "taking over" the board, it was a personal issue I was having with the site.

2. The Yuku Admins advised me to discuss the issue with the TC Admins, as they would be able to resolve the issue.

3. I told the Yuku Admins that the TC Admins weren't available, and was there something else that could be done to help me?

4. The Yuku Admins said they would try contacting the TC Admins for me.

5. Weeks went by with no resolution to my issue, nor had I heard from anybody from Yuku. Then one day, I received a reply email from the Yuku Admins stating that they had tried to contact the TC Admins via every available method [ multiple email addresses, PMs, etc. ] and that they had been unable to contact anybody.

6. TC was then deemed "Abandoned."

7. Because the board needed a new owner appointed to keep the board "alive," I was given the position because I was one of the Mods at the time.

And there you have it. There was no plot to ever take over TC. Circumstances arose, and Amy and I did what we did to ensure TC would continue to exist. Good decision, bad decision or otherwise, there you have it.
